French Quarter Painting: Design Looking
I recently had the opportunity of traveling to New Orleans where I was met with great creative energy throughout the entire city. Walking down the streets and admiring the beautiful architecture throughout the city was truly magical. Local musicians fill the streets with authentic Jazz music and warm the hearts of all patrons with a large welcome to New Orleans.
Throughout the streets, several public art exhibits were featured. Whether it be displays of local artists selling their work on the streets, or indoor exhibits taking place in local abandoned storefronts, the love and passion for art were present. This specific painting sat in a window and piqued my attention due to its vibrant nature. The painting features the iconographic image of the French Quarter, a famous section of New Orleans. Through its impressionistic lens, the artist can grasp the realistic imagery of the architecture while also adding an interpretation of the feeling of the city. The psychedelic emotion evoked from the swirls in the skies and vibrant color palette helps to push forward the essence of New Orleans. The artist adds significant detail to the painting, specifically on the building terraces through the laced railing.
I appreciate this painting because of its vibrant and impressionistic nature. After being in New Orleans for such a short time I was able to grasp a bit of the essence of what the city is. I feel that this painting articulates it perfectly and focuses on the life and energy that the city has to offer.
