As a designer, I am constantly seeking inspiration to fuel my creative process. For my latest personal brandmark project, I focused on simplicity and clean designs that could capture the essence of my personal brand. I wanted my brandmark to reflect my identity and design principles without relying on any specific cultural symbols.
The first step in my creative process was to list down all the words that I associate with myself, as well as those that define my design approach. Once the lists were complete, I scanned them for any overlapping words or themes that could serve as the foundation of my brandmark. Three words resonated with me on a personal and design level: Balance, Unity, and Space.
With these words as my guide, I began to brainstorm and sketch out initial design concepts. I focused on shape and structure, using my chosen words as a compass to navigate through the creative process. I found that characterizing my design with these words helped me generate ideas and find inspiration.
As I progressed with my designs, I also sought feedback and critique from fellow designers and mentors. This allowed me to gain valuable insights and identify areas for improvement. One aspect that I realized I could enhance was my use of imagery and abstraction. I struggled to find the right imagery that could seamlessly integrate with my brandmark designs.
One of my brandmark concepts incorporated overlapping letterforms, symbolizing the concept of unity. Another concept featured a shape or box design as the central element, complemented by a wordmark, representing balance. For the third concept, I explored linework designs that conveyed the idea of space.
As I move forward with my personal Brandmark project, I am excited to continue refining my designs and exploring new possibilities. It is a testament to the power of creativity and self-expression, and a reminder that the process of designing a personal brandmark goes beyond aesthetics – it is a reflection of who I am as a person and a designer.
